What is New to the Website?
1. Our 2008 Calendar has been updated to date and we probably will have a few more events and field activities to add.
2. In 2008 MSH will be hosting the 24th Annual Midwest Herpetological Symposium and Expo. This new page will be your portal for all information related to this event. Keep checking back to see all of our updates!
3. MSH is proud to announce the expansion of the MSH Conservation Fund to include all Reptiles and Amphibians in Michigan. The fund will have a general component and also include the MSH Massasauga Conservation Fund.
The Most Action Packed Season In MSH History!
March 2008: On March 15th we have one of last year's grant recipients, Matt Cross speaking on this work on controlled burns and the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. Our program begins at 7 PM and is open to all age groups. Join us in Lansing to learn more about this project.
On March 29th MSH kicks off its exhibit event season with Vet-A-Visit at Michigan State University. Vet-a-Visit is Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine's open house to show their facilities and many aspects of Veterinary medicine. MSH members will be exhibiting their animals with the public in support of the event. You can learn more about visit their website at www.vetavisit.com.
April 2008: On April 5th and 6th MSH member will be exhibiting animals at the West Michigan Pet Expo at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids. See Reptiles and Amphibians from around the world and even have the opportunity to have your photo taken with them. Play our popular Herp pond game and win prizes every time.
On April 12th and 13th MSH will be joining our friends at the Chicago Herpetological Society to take part in Reptile Fest in Downtown Chicago. Join thousands of people to enjoy the Nation’s Largest Educational Reptile and Amphibian Show. This is a great weekend getaway for those who really want to see a wide selection of reptiles as well as see the sights of one of our Nation’s largest cities. May 2008: On May 2-4th MSH will be exhibiting animals as part of the Mid Michigan Pet & Family Expo in Saginaw. This is a fairly new event for MSH, but MSH members have been involved for the past few years. This event will give those on the eastern side of the state to experience event a little closer to home.
On May 17th our general meeting will be held at John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids. The meeting starts at 7pm and it will be our popular “Bring Your Favorite Herp Night”. This is where MSH members bring in their animals and share information about them to the group. We have had a wide variety of species visiting these meetings from Boa Constrictors, to egg eating snakes, to a corn snake, to rare Iguanas, to a Gila Monster.
June 2008: On June 6-8 MSH will hosting its annual camping trip at Fort Custer near Battle Creek. Members and guests will be spending time in the field searching for our native reptiles and amphibians. Eric Tobin will be leading groups in the field both during the day and in the evening. This is a family event so everyone is welcome. We will be doing a wide variety of activities and games as part of the weekend. Fort Custer hosts some of the best mountain biking trails in southwest Michigan. This is Michigan’s free fishing weekend so you can also fish without having a license. We will have a great time. Because of the large events we will not be having regular meetings in April, June, July, or August.
